The original American Pie is an iconic film that became somewhat of a rite of passage for anyone growing up through the 90s and 2000s. The 1999 film revolves around Jim and his friends as they seek to lose their virginity before their high school graduation. The film has since spawned three more mainline sequels as well as five spin-offs. However, the current climate isn’t conducive to its brand of humor and comedy. Perhaps this would explain why a fifth theatrical film has had a hard time gaining traction since 2012 despite the fact that the latest installment, 2012’s American Reunion, pulled in $235 million at the global box office against a $50 million budget. It’s not clear who will direct the upcoming American Pie movie or if it will be a spin-off or a mainline installment. The way that the report describes Day’s take on American Pie suggests that it will differ from its predecessors. In the meantime, fans of the American Pie franchise can keep themselves busy by following Cobra Kai. The Karate Kid sequel series is created by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who also worked together on American Pie Reunion.
