According to the official Call of Duty Twitter account, Modern Warfare 2 will come out on October 28. But, that’s not all. Infinity Ward also threw in a video alongside the release date reveal. The fairly realistic footage of a container ship sees a series of tactical pronouncements and close-ups of familiar faces before the ship docks to show a mural of Ghost’s face. We’ve known for a while that Modern Warfare 2 will pick up following the events of 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot, also by Infinity Ward, and this all but confirms it. However, the fan-favorite character, whose real name is Simon Riley, died following the events of the original Modern Warfare 2. It definitely appears that the studio is leaning more towards the reboot route, possibly changing the narrative so that Riley as well as the rest of Task Force 141 will live on for future campaigns.
— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) May 24, 2022 Speaking of, Infinity Ward confirmed that Task Force 141 will have a similarly prominent role in the sequel, complete with images of each member such as Ghost, John Price, Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, “Soap” MacTavish, and Alejandro Vargas. Modern Warfare 2 will have big if controversial shoes to fill. The 2019 reboot was a huge hit due to its gameplay, campaign, multiplayer, and graphics. The game’s dark and gritty story set a new standard for the Call of Duty franchise that hasn’t been matched since. Hopefully, Infinity Ward used the past three years well enough to craft a similarly gripping tale. The last we heard, the campaign will see the starring multinational special operations unit take on the Columbian drug cartels in a war that could take them way across the pond and into Singapore. We should find out more about Modern Warfare 2 soon as we inch closer to its release.
