Hustle is an upcoming Netflix film that stars Adam Sandler as a former basketball talent scout, Stanley Beren. Although his best days are behind him, Beren finds a young prospect to try and nurture in Juan Hernangomez, who will play the role of Bo Cruz. The current Utah Jazz player is described as a “once-in-a-lifetime player” in Hustle, albeit one that comes with several issues and baggage. In the brief trailer that we’ve gotten of Hustle, we can see Beren drilling Cruz hard to help make his dreams of coming to the NBA a reality. The first trailer for the Adam Sandler-led Netflix film arrived right before this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend. The story, which was written by Taylor Materne and Will Fetters with Jeremiah Zagar as the director, will feature an underdog story revolving around Sandler’s Beren and Hernangomez’s Cruz. In addition to the two lead characters, Hustle boasts an ensemble cast of actors and current NBA players. Joining Sandler are Ben Foster, Queen Latifa, Robert Duvall, and Ben Foster, among others. Meanwhile, several NBA players made appearances as themselves in the movie as well, such as:
Matisse Thybulle Tyrese Maxey Tobias Harris Seth Curry Boban Marjanović Anthony Edwards Kyle Lowry Jordan Clarkson Trae Young Khris Middleton Aaron Gordon
Fans can also spot NBA stars-turned-media personalities in Hustle such as Kenny “The Jet” Smith and Marck Jackson. Following a string of box office flops, Sandler has used Netflix to showcase his underrated range as an actor. Although he’s still down for a comedy film or two, as evidenced by Murder Mystery 2, Netflix is letting Sandler showcase his talent. Having said that, Hustle is shaping up to be a different kind of basketball film In addition to Sandler’s love for the game, the film stars an actual NBA player. On top of this, several other players that are still in the best basketball league in the world also lent their talents to Hustle. All of this should combine to help add a heightened sense of realism to Hustle that’s absent from other basketball films. Here’s to hoping that Hustle delivers on the promising potential of the film’s first trailer once it is released on June 10.
