Solving Odyssey’s Shortcomings

Before we dive into the cold yet inviting map of Valhalla, we need to address the problem with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s map and how Ubisoft fixed it in Valhalla. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s map was criticized for being unbelievably huge. In fact, if you look at Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s map and a map of Greece side by side, you’ll notice a lot of similarities. Depending upon your playstyle, this could be a boon or a bane. Odyssey’s map was a completionist’s wet dream. But for the casual players out there, playing for the story, navigating the map was a pain. In the end, a majority of the player base left uncharted lands untouched and used the fast travel feature to navigate around, instead of soaking in the Mediterranean blues. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tactfully solves that problem by breaking down the world map into five distinct parts. This means that the map you’re playing at the moment isn’t overwhelming, but when you put all five of them together, you’ll find a map bigger than that of Odyssey.

How to Fast Travel in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Fast travelling in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla works like fast travelling in any Assassin’s Creed game you can imagine. Fast travel points are denoted by white eagles on the map. These are called synchronization points where you can climb up and have a good look around, followed by a sick leap of faith. Once on top, press ‘Y/ Triangle button/ Shift’ to synchronise and the eagle icon on the map will turn blue, indicating that the fast travel point has been unlocked. In addition to the sync points, you can also fast travel to settlements and boat docks. All you need to do is visit the settlements or dock your boat to unlock these fast travel points. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla also gives you the ability to fast travel between the five different maps at any time. All you need to do is pull up the ‘world’ tab in the pause menu and press ‘Y/ Triangle button/ Shift’ to access the Atlas. Here you can find all the maps you’ve unlocked so far. Simply choose the map that you’d like to visit and press ‘travel’.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Maps

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla features not one, but five distinct maps, each with their own unique outlook, fauna, treasures and secrets

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Norway Map (15km²)

Valhalla starts in Norway, Fornburg to be particular. The first few hours of the story that highlight the power struggles in Scandinavia, and the events that pave the path to England, take place here. The Norwegian map may seem unnecessarily huge for a starter map, but once the story progresses, you’ll realize that it’s not just a starter map. Apart from your home base of Fornburg, the Norwegian maps feature two main settlements, Rygjafylke and Hordafylke. You can explore the whole map right from the get-go, but Hordafylke’s power level is 280, so it’s a wise idea to steer clear for now. Besides, you’ll come back to Norway, so don’t worry about exploring every crevice of the map. Here are all the regions you’ll visit in Norway.

Rygjafylke = Level 1 Hordafylke = Level 280

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla England Map ( 120km²)

A majority of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place in England, so this map is gigantic. In fact, it’s the largest among the five maps in the game. It’ll take you hours to soak in everything that England has to offer, from cities like Lunden (London’s old name) and vast countrysides. We recommend you unlock all the fast travel points as soon as possible to cut the heft of long drawn out journeys. The England map of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will also take you across real-life locations and forts. Here are all the regions you’ll visit in England.

Ledecestrescire = Level 20 Grantebridgescire = Level 20 East Anglia = Level 55 Lunden = Level 90 Oxenefordscire = Level 90 Sciropescire = Level 130 Cent = Level 130 Lincolnscire = Level 160 Essexe = Level 160 Suthsexe = Level 160 Eurviscire = Level 190 Jorvik = Level 190 Glowecestrescire = Level 220 Snotinghamscire = Level 250 Wincestre = Level 250 Hamtunscire = Level 340

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Vinland Map ( 2.8km²)

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes you across the pond to Vinland, or what the Codex suggests is ‘modern-day Newfoundland’, or rather what we call the American continent. The Vinland map is not a part of the main story, so you’ll need to pledge and complete the Lunden arc by defeating all Order of the Ancient Members. It’s quite a small map but the lack of a mount makes it appear bigger than it is. The Vinland map features jaw-dropping forestry, making it a must-visit.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Asgard Map (1.56km)

Yes, you can visit Asgard, the Norse heaven and the seat of Odin in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. You can unlock the Asgard Map once you construct the Seer’s Hut in your settlement. You’ll also need to gather some plants to brew a potion that acts as a bridge between the two worlds. Asgard is a relatively small place and, with your Reindeer mount, you can cover the whole area in 20 minutes. The Asgard Map is not a part of the main story, but its own storyline makes it worthwhile. Plus, if you want to unlock the last map on the list, then you’ll need to wrap-up the Asgard questline first.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Jotunheim Map (1.2km)

Once you wrap-up the Asgard storyline, the Seer will send you on another fetch quest to find a few more plants. These plants are then brewed into another potion which teleports your conscious to Jotunheim, the frozen world of giants.
