Which Sabbac will appear in Black Adam?
Now that Black Adam is all but set to premiere on July 29, 2022, we’re starting to learn more details about the upcoming DCEU film. After Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson dropped photos of himself sitting inside a VFX contraption, the latest news comes by way of the action figure developer McFarlane Toys. Specifically, a toy listing suggests that a DC Comics supervillain known as Sabbac will make his appearance in the Black Adam film. According to the leak, Sabbac will come in a megafig action figure, which means that the villain will have a larger action figure compared to the rest of the Black Adam collection.
There are two iterations of Sabbac and both have had ties to Shazam and Black Adam over the years. The first one is Timothy Karnes, who possessed similar powers to Black Adam and Shazam. However, unlike the former and current vessels of the power of Shazam, Sabbac gets his power from a demonic entity of the same name. When Timothy utters the words “Sabbac”, he becomes a demon with super-strength and super-speed as well as the ability to fly and breathe and blast fire from his hands. Unlike Shazam, who draws powers from the combined forces of the ancient Greek gods, Sabbac draws power from Satan, Aym, Belial, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Crateis. On the other hand, the more recent version is a 50-foot demon who drew his power from the Seven Deadly Sins of Man. Black Adam has direct control over this Sabbac. The anti-hero used the entity to destroy the world and remake it into his image. The toy listing does not confirm which version of Sabbac will appear in Black Adam. However, judging by the megafig, we can assume that it’s the 50-foot demon variant. The only question now is if Black Adam will have control over Sabbac or if the DCEU will change the supervillain’s story to fit the movie’s narrative. Much of Black Adam’s plot remains under wraps, as it rightfully should. However, star Dwayne Johnson and producer Hiram Garcia have done a great job teasing audiences about what to expect from the titular antihero. For example, the film’s official synopsis describes Black Adam as someone who will “unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.” At the same time, The Rock himself claims that not even Superman can beat Black Adam. Finally, in a recent statement, Garcia confirmed that there are plans for several sequels and spin-offs to Black Adam.
