There is a strong possibility of a sequel to Wakanda Forever, but the studio is taking its time on the decision - at least publicly. The Collider’s Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub got the opportunity to ask Black Panther 2 producer Nate Moore about the prospect of a third movie during a recent interview. “Do you envision a Black Panther 3 in the next three / four years or do you think this is going to be something where Wakanda and the characters are just sort of embedded into the rest of the MCU?” Weintraub asks Moore. “That’s a great question. To be honest, this is not me trying to not answer the question. We really want to see how audiences receive the film, and I think Ryan’s really interested to see how the film plays before we decide,” Moore answers. Moore adds, “there are certainly ideas we’ve floated around of what a third film could be if we get to make it. But until the movie comes out, we’re a bit superstitious in that way. We don’t want to count our chickens, because you never know what’s going to happen.” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may be the biggest movie of 2022 but Marvel is taking a cautious approach toward the franchise. They certainly know the direction they want to take with the future of certain characters such as Riri Williams and the rest of the main characters. Director Ryan Coogler is reportedly involved in Ironheart on Disney+ and is also working on a Wakanda-based TV show. Coogler also addressed the question of a third Black Panther movie in a recent interview. “I got no answers for you. I’m trying to finish what I am doing and then think about what’s next,” Coogler states. Individually, the characters may be integrated into the bigger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Riri Williams is getting her solo tv-series in Ironheart which is set to debut in 2023 on Disney+, and it is anyone’s guess how the other series will factor into the wider universe. Namor, on the other hand, may be linked to the future of the X-Men. There have been rumors that the next phase after the Multiverse Saga will be called the Mutant Saga. Marvel’s Kevin Feige already stated that the X-Men is close to becoming part of the MCU. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the final movie for Phase 4 of the MCU. Phase 5 opens with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and audiences will see more of the main bad guy of the Multiverse Saga in Kang the Conqueror. We may see more of Shuri, Nakia, Okoye, and the rest of the characters from Black Panther 2 with Phase 6’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars similar to how they were added to Avengers: End Game.
