According to the studio’s most recent announcement, Digital Extremes’ next game is a free-to-play fantasy MMO that will draw its influence from “themes of nature, restoration, and exploration.” The game, Soulframe, is still in “early development” and “will deliver its own independent and uniquely immersive experience led by the creative and imaginative minds behind Warframe.” Here’s what the long-time Warframe director, Steve Sinclair, had to say about Soulframe in an interview with The Washington Post: Sinclair added that Elden Ring will serve as another inspiration as well as Sinclair described the game as “absolutely fantastic.” With Soulframe taking inspiration from FromSoftware’s best-selling title alongside 1984’s The NeverEnding Story, and 1997’s Princess Mononoke, Digital Extremes wants to hype the upcoming MMO up as the next best thing. The only question now is, will Soulframe deliver? Digital Extremes admitted before that Warframe was a “rogue success.” With nearly 50 million registered users in 2019, Warframe sets a high bar for Soulframe. We are hoping we’ll see more of Soulframe soon enough to have a better idea about what it will look like. At the moment, Soulframe doesn’t have a release date yet.
