According to an ad from the official PlayStation Twitter account, FF16 will only be a “PS5 exclusive for six months” after it comes out next summer. We’ve known for a while that the JRPG will come out next summer, but this is the first time we’re hearing about the game’s arrival on other platforms outside of a “tease” spotted by fans in one of the game’s earliest trailers.
— PlayStation (@PlayStation) November 7, 2022 If we do a quick calculation, the PC port of FF16 will be available in December or sometime during Q1 of 2024. Unfortunately, there’s still no mention of an Xbox Series S/X port, and at this point, if you own an Xbox, you might not want to get your hopes up. Keep in mind that Final Fantasy VII Remake (and its current-gen-exclusive upgrade, Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade), are not available on the Xbox One and the Xbox Series S/X. Still, seeing FF16 on the PC so soon after its PS5 launch is good news. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for Forspoken. Sony’s deal with the makers of Final Fantasy 15 puts the magic-filled action RPG under lock and key until January 23, 2025, two full years after it comes out next year. The latest ad didn’t include details of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but we can expect the series’ rare sequel to be exclusive to the PS5 for a while as well. If it’s any consolation, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - Reunion will be a multi-platform game. If you’re really itching for some Final Fantasy, you can play the upcoming game featuring Zack Fair in a remake of the original PSP game that may or may not include a new ending to tie it into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth better. Speaking of Square Enix, the Japanese company recently confirmed it’s shifting the focus of its future games to the global market.
