Halo Infinite’s second season could do the trick and satisfy players. In the off-chance that it might not totally work, 343 has its eyes set on the future. In particular, one that involves a battle royale mode. Gaming journalist Jez Corden just added to the pile of unconfirmed information about Halo Infinite’s unannounced battle royale mode in a recent podcast. Specifically, Corden claimed that the new mode, Tatanka, might add side quests similar to Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign. Furthermore, Corden believes that 343 could release the battle royale mode as soon as the game’s third season. As revealed in the latest Halo Infinite roadmap, 343 is continuing to work on Campaign Co-Op, Forge, and Season 3. The studio didn’t mention battle royale, but 343 did strengthen its ties with Certain Affinity for a reason. Certain Affinity described the partnership as being “entrusted with further evolving Halo Infinite in some new and exciting ways,” and many believe that this is all the confirmation necessary to make a logical conclusion. Going back to the still-unconfirmed battle royale mode, Corden explains that Certain Affinity is testing “a sort of PvPvE kind of thing”. Corden added that the mode is “not going to be a complete copy clone or PUBG for example” and that he claims to have “heard it’s going to be duos and trios.” If this is true, then Halo Infinite’s take on the popular genre might lean more towards Fortnite’s side of things. Seeing players fighting against other AI-controlled enemies and other Spartans would add a unique twist to Halo Infinite. Not to mention, it could make the game appeal better to a wider audience. Certain Affinity’s project for 343 is certainly not lacking in ambition. Unfortunately, this also means that 343 won’t unveil the mode until it is sure that it’s ready to launch. Despite Corden saying that it might come out in late 2022 or early 2023, we don’t think 343 is going to risk another go at delaying another mode, so we wouldn’t be surprised that the battle royale is going to take longer than expected. If it’s any consolation, Halo is winning on other fronts. In addition to 343’s latest installment of Microsoft’s marquee shooter, Paramount Plus’ Halo TV series has been a huge hit so far. The show already has a second season coming with cameras expected to start rolling in a few months.
