In total, the two-film Under Siege series made over $250 million at the global box office. Now, HBO Max wants to launch a reboot of the classic action film.
Is Seagal going to come back for the Under Siege reboot?
The 1992 film sees Seagal take on the role of a former one-time Navy Seal Casey Ryback. For some reason, he is now on board the battleship Missouri and working as a cook. After being locked inside a freezer by a commanding officer for a very petty reason, the ship is ransacked and invaded by a group of mercenaries. It is then up to Ryback alone to put a stop to the group that’s led by Tommy Lee Jones. Nearly thirty years later after Under Siege premiered in theaters, Deadline claims that a reboot is now underway. According to the report, Warner Bros. has brought in Timo Tjahjanto of The Night Comes for Us and May the Devil Take You fame as the director. Meanwhile, Umair Aleem, who most recently wrote the script for Netflix’s Kate, is also on board as the script’s writer. The two reportedly “collaborated and developed the pitch together” with Warner Bros. planning to release the reboot as an HBO Max original release. Unfortunately, Deadline’s report contained no other details outside of the director and writer. There was no mention of Steven Seagal’s involvement in the reboot. In addition to the Under Siege reboot, Tjahjanto is also involved with Last Train to New York, an upcoming American remake of Train to Busan.
