As the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise prepares to host its first Alpha test, Activision dropped a brand-new trailer for the game. However, unlike the more general teasers that we’ve gotten of Vanguard so far, the latest footage is the longest yet. It puts audiences right in the middle of the action as one of the main characters that gamers will get to play as on November 5 when Vanguard releases..
Petrova proves that she’s just as deadly up close as she is from afar
The 9-minute gameplay video is taken straight from the single-player campaign with Polina sneaking through enemy camps, stabbing enemies right on their face, and shooting her way through anything and everything with a powerful shotgun. As a sniper, Petrova’s specialty is subtlety. She can take enemies from afar with ease and sneak behind them for quiet kills. She’s also quite nimble, able to climb her way up ledges to find the perfect angle. However, from what we can tell in the opening sequences in the trailer, Petrova isn’t someone you’d like to mess with up close either. She’s just as handy with the shotgun as she is with the sniper rifle. Offering more recent if not contemporary settings, Activision is taking gamers back to World War 2 with Vanguard. However, unlike Sledgehammer’s previous attempt in Call of Duty: WWII, Vanguard has a much heavier focus on its narrative aspect. Vanguard is set in an alternate timeline, as a group of elite allied soldiers from different armies attempt to try and finish the war. We already know from earlier reveals that the game will follow the story of four protagonists. Meanwhile, for the game’s multiplayer component, it appears that Sledgehammer is taking a more grounded approach, opting for “smaller, tighter maps,” as opposed to all-out warfare. In addition to this, Raven Software is also working on a new map for Call of Duty: Warzone using Vanguard’s in-game engine, which means it should integrate well with Warzone. Treyarch also confirmed earlier that it is going to continue the Dark Aether narrative with a brand new Zombie mode for Vanguard that will serve as a prequel to the Zombie mode for its own game, Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War.
