Having said that, it appears that all of these returning characters, especially the dead ones, are getting more than just fans curious. It’s gotten to the point that Samuel L. Jackson, who portrayed Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy, went ahead and asked Star Wars director, Bryce Dallas Howard, if he can come back. More specifically, Jackson asked Howard if she could “hook a brother up” and gave the actor hope that the Jedi Master could come back. What’s even more interesting is that Howard has reacted to Jackson’s latest reveal on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz. As his interview went rounds over the internet, Howard, who directed two episodes of The Mandalorian and the fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett, replied with a string of “eyes” emojis on Twitter.
— Bryce Dallas Howard (@BryceDHoward) March 16, 2022 So, is Mace Windu coming back in a future Star Wars film or TV show? Well, your guess is as good as ours. The thing with the director’s response is that it’s neither a confirmation nor denial that Jackson is coming back to venture into the galaxy, far, far away, but his recent interview does suggest that he’ll come running if Disney calls. Unfortunately, even if Jackson is interested, there’s still the matter of his death following the prequel trilogy and his absence in the original trilogy as well as the sequel trilogy. A potential return would have to be a flashback. Otherwise, it will take a significant amount of clever writing to bring Mace back only to kill him off again. Theoretically, this could happen as early as in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which just got its first trailer. The Star Wars production is just as good as Marvel Studios at keeping a secret, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Mace somehow ends up coming back to life in a future Star Wars TV show. But, if this does happen, Disney risks drawing the ire of a sizable and very vocal chunk of the Star Wars fanbase that has openly criticized the franchise for refusing to move forward with new stories in favor of milking older and popular characters.
