Death Stranding Director’s Cut is headed to PCs near you
Death Stranding is Kojima Productions’ debut title after it officially split off from Konami. After working mostly on Metal Gear games for decades, Kojima flexed his creative muscles in a game that many referred to as a walking simulator. Although Death Stranding didn’t prove to be quite as popular as Metal Gear, it carved out a sizable enough niche among PlayStation owners and PC gamers once it was ported over. Now, the formerly PS5-exclusive expansion to the 2019 title is coming to the PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in mid-2022. Kojima confirmed the PC port of Death Stranding Director’s Cut during Intel’s showcase at CES 2022 as the tech company showed off its latest Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) graphics technology. According to Intel, this machine learning feature will help boost performance and improve visuals, similar to what Nvidia does with its DLSS technology. Unfortunately, Kojima Productions nor the game’s publisher, 505 Games, confirmed anything new that would be coming to Death Stranding Director’s Cut that isn’t already available on the PS5. This suggests that the PC port will mirror the same features that the PS5 version received. The original Director’s Cut for the PS5 adds more combat mechanics to the base game, including upgraded melee attacks, mounted machine guns, as well as a new Maser gun. Other additions include evolved stabilizers with thrusters, improved long-distance range of the cargo catapult, as well as the ability to revisit boss battles, share scores online and compete with other players on a racing track. We’ll likely find out more about the PC version of Death Stranding: Director’s Cut soon. In particular, if current owners of the base Death Stranding game can upgrade to the Director’s Cut, as well as how much it will cost for first-time players. In the meantime, those who are interested in purchasing Death Stranding: Director’s Cut can wishlist the game on Steam. In other news, the video game auteur just got cryptic on Twitter about his upcoming project. Meanwhile, Norman Reedus confirmed back in August that Death Stranding 2 is coming. Also, speaking of PC ports of PS exclusives, 2018’s God of War will be available on PCs starting on January 14, 2022.
