Announced at the end of Capcom’s April 2021 Resident Evil Showcase with more details released during the April 21 Oculus Gaming Showcase, Resident Evil 4 VR is going to release on the Oculus Quest 2 sometime in 2021. However, with so much information for the casual fan to keep up with already announced, you and a lot of other people probably have hundreds of questions about the upcoming VR overhaul of what’s considered the best Resident Evil game ever. With that said, we’ve rounded up everything there is to know about Resident Evil 4 VR down below.
Is There a Resident Evil 4 VR Trailer Available?
After Capcom’s initial announcement, the Oculus Gaming Showcase showed off more of what fans can expect from Resident Evil 4 VR. In the newest trailer for Resident Evil 4 VR, Executive Producer Ruth Bram talks more about how the developers ported the game and all the changes coming to Resident Evil 4 VR with the change in perspective. As detailed in the trailer, one of the most notable changes coming to Resident Evil 4 VR is that players can now interact with weapons and objects. At the same time, dual-wielding is now available and players can grab weapons directly off of their bodies for a more authentic experience. Resident Evil 4 VR also features audio improvements for better immersion. The trailer also reveals that Resident Evil 4 VR will give players options as far as movement goes. Players can either move around using the analog stick or teleport around in case they get motion sickness from moving around in VR too much. Oculus also stressed in the showcase that while Resident Evil 4 VR is a faithful VR recreation of the original, with the original cutscenes included, the VR title is a remastered version of the original game in Unreal Engine 4. Although it’s not as noticeable in the trailer, a closer inspection will show you just how much better the in-game textures look. This is understandable given the shift from a third-person to a first-person perspective.
When Is the Resident Evil 4 VR Release Date?
While talking about Resident Evil 4 VR at the Oculus Gaming Showcase, Ruth Bram confirmed a 2021 release window for the game on Oculus Quest 2. Unfortunately, Bram nor Capcom has given no further information beyond the release window. However, given that the other games of the Oculus Gaming Showcase all received Summer 2021 windows, it’s highly likely that Resident Evil 4 VR won’t release until at least Fall 2021.
Who Is Developing Resident Evil 4 VR?
Armature Studios and Oculus Studios are both working together to help create Resident Evil 4 VR. The former usually supports bigger studios in their larger projects. The Texas-based video game developers previously helped Epic Games with the development of Fortnite. However, Armature Studios has worked previously with Oculus Studios with VR titles such as Fail Factory! and Sports Scramble.
Is Resident Evil 4 VR Exclusive to Oculus Quest 2?
Seeing as Oculus Studios will publish Resident Evil 4 VR, it’s highly likely that it will remain exclusive to the Oculus Quest 2. Of course, this could all change with the release of PSVR 2 soon.
Is a Resident Evil 4 Remake Still Coming?
This is something that we still can’t answer as of yet. The only information we have to go on is that Resident Evil 4 VR has been recreated in Unreal Engine 4. But, as far as Resident Evil 4 VR being the rumored remake, this information has still yet to be confirmed nor denied by Capcom so far. For those that don’t know, rumors of a Resident Evil 4 remake started emerging following the release of the Resident Evil 4 Remake. But, if it’s any consolation, the same leaker who provided information about the Resident Evil 4 remake claims that Resident Evil 4 VR is a separate project and that the Resident Evil 4 Remake is still coming. For now, fans can at least look forward to two Resident Evil projects coming in 2021. Resident Evil Village is expected to launch on May 8 with an hour-long demo available in the lead-up to the game’s release date.
