The decision was recently confirmed by Capcom producer Kanda Tsuyoshi, in the latest PlayStation blog. In it he details the launch date for the VR mode of Resident Evil Village as being February 23, 2023, coinciding with the PS VR2 headset release date. Regardless of if you have the regular or Gold edition of the game, you can download and play it as soon as you receive your headset. This news comes as a pleasant surprise when you consider how much effort Capcom must have invested in making the VR version of Village as immersive as possible. That’s possible due to the eye-tracking technology and 3D audio implemented in this system. In the same blog Tsuyoshi, the producer of Resident Evil Village, revealed the VR version of the game will fully utilize the 4K HDR (2000 x 2040 per eye) display that the PS VR2 will support. Another major development coming with the release of the PS VR2 is its controllers, which Tsuyoshi rightfully highlights. Apart from offering the most realistic estimation of how tall Lady Dimitrescu really is, the new controllers will also have new features. Being able to wield two weapons at the same time is one of them and players can now hold their hands at face height to defend themselves from enemy attacks. Horizon Call of the Mountain, of which we got a glimpse at The Game Awards, will also be coming out on the same day, so the only downside to the new system remains the price. Starting at $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99, it will cost more than the actual PlayStation 5 on release. Resident Evil Village might be free, but the lowest-cost games for the new system start at 20$. With some of the notable and more established titles going for 70$. That’s quite a steep price to pay, but hopefully, it’s worth it for getting your hands on the most advanced piece of gaming equipment on the planet.
