However, even though Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game isn’t coming for at least the next two years, it appears that details about the unannounced game have leaked already.

The 2012 shooter by Treyarch is, by far, one of the most popular Call of Duty games of all time, but its 2015 and 2018 sequels failed to live up to expectations, with critics singling out its uninspired single-player content, among other issues. Since Treyarch will be working on Call of Duty 2023, it’s not far-fetched for the series to return to a similar setting with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. With that said, it’ll be interesting to see if this “semi-futuristic” setting is true and how it will pan out. Black Ops III was set in 2065, 40 years after the events of Black Ops II. Judging by how audiences today still prefer Black Ops II, Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game might be set right around the same time. If this is the case, then we might see a familiar face in an older David Mason, alongside other iconic weapons like the KSG, Skorpion EVO, and the AN-94, among others.
