For some reason, Sony decided to apply an update that “improves system performance” for the third straight time. The 21.02-04.50.00 update, which Sony released just today, read the same way as versions 21.02-04.03.00 and 21.02-04.02.00.
When is Sony going to release a bigger PS5 update?
The last time Sony released a major PS5 update was back in September 2021. The version 21.02-04.00.00 patch made several modifications to the console manufacturer’s latest console, including the SSD expansion, the home screen, and the 3D audio. Since then, all that Sony has done is to make improvements to the PS5’s performance without really specifying how and why. Because of this, fans are disappointed that Sony didn’t kick off December on a bigger note. Most were expecting something bigger for December after Hideaki Nishino, PlayStation’s SVP of platform experience, shared a few months ago that “there will be more coming out in the future” as far as community-requested features go. Of course, December is not over yet. Although it might be unusual for Sony to release multiple firmware updates in a month, it has happened. Hopefully, Sony does release a bigger PS5 update to close out the year. In other PlayStation news, eagle-eyed observers recently found out that Sony was planning on releasing a new PlayStation mobile controller. Meanwhile, in late October, Sony officially launched a new label for PC ports. Finally, Sony confirmed its final offering for PlayStation Plus subscribers this year.
