Jak and Daxter was one of Sony’s first exclusives for the PlayStation 2 and is the brainchild of Naughty Dog. The Uncharted developers worked primarily on the franchise alongside Crash Bandicoot in the early 2000s. Uncharted released the first three installments of Jak and Daxter between 2001 and 2004, all for the PS2. Since then, Naughty Dog, as well as other studios, have worked on spin-offs with re-released bundles of the initial trilogy coming to other platforms in 2004 and 2017, respectively.
Even though Jak and Daxter haven’t been part of Sony’s lineup of AAA titles for more than a decade, fans still wonder if Sony has plans to bringing the platformer back. Now, it appears that it’s going to follow the way of Uncharted to the big screen. According to Digital Trends, Fleischer confirmed he’s working on Jak and Daxter for PlayStation. Unfortunately, the Venom director did not reveal which entry the movie will focus on and who’s going to be in it. Most likely, Fleischer is still in the very early stages of the live-action adaptation of the iconic platformer. It should go without saying, but fans shouldn’t expect a release date for the Jak and Daxter movie anytime soon. If it’s any consolation, Fleischer’s statement comes just days after Tom Holland told Gamespot that he’d like to star in a Jak and Daxter movie. Coincidence? Probably. But, given Holland’s close working relationship with Sony, it’s not a stretch to assume that he’s attached to the Jak and Daxter in some form or manner. For now, the ball is in Sony’s court. The multimedia giant tends to take its time with live-action adaptations of its properties. It might take several years before things start moving for Jak and Daxter. Then again, who knows? If Fleischer’s words can start a conversation among fans, Sony might move up the timeline even further. Speaking of live-action adaptations of Sony’s properties, fans can look forward to more than just Uncharted. HBO’s The Last of Us TV adaptation is coming to streaming services and cable TV soon, with its first-ever tease dropping last September. Meanwhile, a Ghost of Tsushima from the director of John Wick is still on the docket albeit the movie still doesn’t have a script yet let alone started filming.
