The minute-long trailer is basically Square Enix’s way of telling everybody, “yes, Forspoken is as stylish as the most recent Final Fantasy games”. Unfortunately, while no one’s docking any style points from Forspoken, some worry that the trailer might have set up unrealistic expectations for the game. The still-available Forspoken demo for the PlayStation 5 are getting mixed reactions. Even if the developers, Luminous Productions, vowed to make improvements to Forspoken based on feedback, we doubt that a month is enough to fix the game’s issues like its massive but relatively empty open-world map and sluggish combat. The combat system of Forspoken should feel familiar for those who’ve played Final Fantasy 15 in the past, which isn’t necessarily a good thing. One of the biggest criticisms fans had for the latest mainline Final Fantasy game to hit the market is its combat system. Many felt like the pacing of FF15’s combat was clunky and awkward. The same is true for Forspoken albeit it does make some admittedly welcome improvements. It’ll be interesting to see if Forspoken is going to sell as well as expected. There’s a part of us that feels like it won’t live up to Square Enix’s lofty expectations. If nothing else, Forspoken should tide Final Fantasy fans over until Final Fantasy 16 comes out on June 22.
