From all the memes that it spawned, as well as the fact that the entire incident has been featured in numerous game titles, including in a mod for the latest iteration of Microsoft Flight Simulator, it’s safe to say that no one’s ever forgetting about the Suez Canal incident anytime soon. With that said, Digital Light Foundation are looking to make a full game out of the entire fiasco in the aptly titled Suez Canal Simulator.
What Is Suez Canal Simulator?
Suez Canal Simulator is a game that is precisely what it says it is. It’s a game currently in development by Digital Light Foundation and will serve as the studio’s debut title on the Steam platform. The developers describe it as a game that will help players gain “an understanding of what to expect on the real journey.” To achieve that, the game will reportedly have 1:1 replica timings and environments. This means that players will get a chance to get a full ride across the entirety of the Suez Canal - all 14 or so hours of it. Of course, not everyone wants to spend the entire day watching a ship move through the Suez Canal, so players can speed things up. In addition to the Suez Canal itself, the game will include portions of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. It will have a total area of around 600 kilometers of the sea for players to explore. However, this is just at launch. The developers plan on expanding on the game in the future. At the same time, they’re giving players a chance to come up with their own creations as Suez Canal Simulator will feature extensive modding support. While the game certainly feels like an April Fool’s joke, Suez Canal Simulator is an actual title. The developers even go as far as to claim that it has an educational purpose. In particular, they want players to learn about how hard a single trip through the Suez Canal really is and help raise awareness about exactly what went wrong with the Ever Given. Of course, the developers are well aware of gamer’s tendency to want to wreak wanton mayhem. As such, players will also get a chance to crash and lodge their own containership in the middle of the Suez Canal in the game.
When Is the Suez Canal Simulator Release Date?
Excited fans won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on Suez Canal Simulator. The game will release officially on April 20, 2021, on Steam. Digital Light Foundation will also be providing updates for the game in the months ahead. Among their players include adding a multiplayer mode and customizable sea vessels. In addition to this, Digital Light also announced that they plan on releasing a sequel titled Panama Canal Simulator in August 2021. If you’re wondering if whether your PC or laptop can run Suez Canal Simulator, don’t be. Judging by the looks of it, the game is shaping up to be a low-spec PC game that should run on just about any desktop or laptop built or bought within the past couple of years.
