But there is a caveat: you will have to wait a bit before you can don the cape of the Big Blue Boy Scout. Check out the details we have so far below.
Not So Secret Invasion
Epic Games debuted a new cinematic trailer on the official YouTube channel to herald Fortnite’s Chapter 2 Season 7 story theme. Along with the trailer, the sizzle promotion for the events state: Appropriately, extraterrestrial flying saucers will be prevalent in the skies of the game during the season. Players will be able to attack, chase, and salvage downed saucers. There will also be new technology and weapons to gather, such as the Recon Scanner that can detect threats in the vicinity, the powerful Rail Gun and Pulse Rifle, and unique items such as the Kymera Ray Gun. In addition, the crafting ingredients found from saucers can be constructed to rediscover vaulted items by combining them with existing weapons. For instance, Fortnite Hunters can turn an Assault Rifle into a Burst Assault Rifle with the right combination of ingredient mats. And that’s not all! You will also be able to create your own alien. Once the Kymera outfit is unlocked, you will have the option to customize it by collecting alien artifacts to mix and match different alien head shapes, eye colors, skin textures, and many other options.
Dawn of Justice
Ever since the teasers for Fortnite’s next season had been released, fans have suspected Earth’s Greatest Superhero would finally be joining the fight. A pair of glasses was included in one of the teasers which looked a lot like the traditional frames that a certain farmboy from Smallville is known to wear. As more scenes of the alien invasion escalate, the story trailer cuts to a newsfeed showing the Daily Planet bullpen, finally leading to the reveal of a mild-mannered reporter working for that great Metropolis newspaper. The shot is very brief, but it confirms that the Last Son of Krypton will be appearing this season, joining his fellow DC Comics mainstays like Batman, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, the Flash, and others who have already landed in the game. However, Big Blue will not be initially available and will only be arriving later in the season. According to the in-game counter, Superman will be available on August 12, 2021 (or about 65 days from when Season 7 started). As revealed, Superman’s Fortnite character pack will include:
Clark Kent default Outfit Secret Identity Emote (which changes into the Superman Outfit) The Last Son of Krypton exclusive loading screen Superman Banner Icon Solitude Striker Pickaxe (which looks like a bunch of Kryptonian crystals from the Fortress of Solitude) Superman Shield Spray An Alternate Style called Clark Kent (Shadow) which depicts the black and white Superman costume (aka the regeneration suit made famous during the Reign of the Supermen storyline) Kal-El’s Cape Glider Daily Planet Back Bling (which is a golden spinning Daily Planet globe)
Season 7 Battle Pass
Although Superman will not be arriving for a couple of months, players can acquire the Battle Pass right now. With that, some updates have been made to the Battle Pass rewards system. This time, you accumulate Battle Stars (five in each tier) which you can get to spend on what you wish to unlock. This provides a degree of freedom in allowing players to choose which rewards to unlock. This was actually already used, but the system makes its return and is a welcome change from the default tier list, allowing players to prioritize which rewards to acquire first, while still essentially opening everything up when they hit tier 100. While Superman will not be immediately available, getting the Battle Pass early does include another pop culture character. One of these Battle Pass rewards is Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty. However, you will need to reach a Battle Pass level of 90 or spend a lot of Battle Stars in order to unlock Morty’s belching sparring partner prior to reaching that tier. Interestingly, Rick is depicted in the traditional cell shaded sprite instead of the standard 3D polygons like the other characters in Fortnite. The Invasion theme for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 seems to be heading for a big conclusion similar to the Zero Crisis event of prior seasons. Could it mean a special big bad like Galactus? Perhaps the lord of Apokolips himself, Darkseid? We will just have to wait and see. Fortnite’s Battle Pass is available for purchase for 950 V-Bucks, or $9.50 on the in-game store. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 is live on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
