At the moment, there are very few games that are exclusive only to the Xbox Series S/X (at least, as far as consoles are concerned). But, if it’s any consolation, the number of Xbox-exclusive titles is set to grow by at least one more game come July. Neon Giant’s cyberpunk looter-shooter, The Ascent, has finally gotten a release date. The Xbox-exclusive title is set to launch on July 29. Unsurprisingly, The Ascent will also be available via the Xbox Game Pass at launch.
What Is The Ascent?
The Ascent was supposed to be a launch title for the Xbox Series S/X. However, Neon Giant opted to delay the game for some reason. In terms of gameplay, The Ascent is an isometric action RPG that looks like it was cut from the same cloth as the famed dungeon crawler franchise, Diablo. Not only like the game that it took inspiration from, The Ascent lets players group up in teams of four via local co-op or online play, although the game can also be played solo. Story-wise, The Ascent is set in a dystopian future with cyberpunk themes as the events take place in a planet operated and owned by a single mega-corporation known as The Ascent Group. Things take a turn for the worse when the said establishment shuts down. This leaves everyone to fend for themselves, including you, who is essentially a slave to the system. In addition to the confirmed gameplay and story details, The Ascent will also reportedly take full advantage of the hardware on the Xbox Series X. According to Neon Giant, The Ascent will aim for 60 frames per second at 4K resolution on the Xbox Series X. However, the indie development studio has yet to confirm how The Ascent will perform on the Xbox One, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S. With that said, The Ascent is definitely not the AAA Xbox-exclusive title that most fans have been asking for. However, Neon Giant is no slouch. Even though this will serve as its debut title, the founders of Neon Giant have worked on big titles before. This includes, among others, Doom, Bulletstorm, Gears of War, Far Cry 3, and Wolfenstein. <With such big names in their portfolio, The Ascent has a chance to redeem the reputation of cyberpunk games along with Ghostrunner.
