More than five years later, Sony is looking to capitalize on the PS5’s next-gen hardware and capabilities to address all the issues that the PSVR had when running on the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Unfortunately, after confirming the PSVR 2 in January, there’s little info on when Sony will go with a full reveal of the next-gen VR headset. But, for those who are curious to find out, this could happen soon after Sony released the official website for the PSVR 2.

On one hand, the PSVR 2 website doesn’t contain anything new about the virtual reality headset. On the other hand, the PSVR 2 website is up. At the very least, it confirms that Sony is making moves related to the PSVR 2. By launching a website where all the PSVR 2 info will go, Sony is signaling that it is ready to share more info about the PSVR 2 soon. But, just how soon exactly is something that only Sony knows for now. As revealed by Sony at CES 2022, the PSVR2 will come with an OLED 4K-capable display with HDR and support for up to 120Hz. The headset will use Sense Technology for better tracking precision as well as eye-tracking for added immersion. In addition, the PSVR 2’s Sense controllers will come with a host of features such as haptic feedback, a motion sensor, and finger-touch detection. Ultimately, we doubt that Sony will start releasing the PSVR 2 anytime soon. The ongoing PS5 stock shortage means that the PSVR 2 won’t have as many customers as it should at launch. Then again, there are already millions of people with a PS5 around the globe. Even if the PS5 sales numbers are lower than they should be, Sony could still launch the PSVR 2 this year or next year if it sees an opportunity to make a profit with the next-gen VR headset. In other Sony news, the Japanese console manufacturing giant just confirmed that it plans on releasing at least 10 live-service games by 2026. There’s no word yet about what kind of games these will be, but we wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of them will be in VR. Also, Sony recently held its first State of Play event this year, which included thirty minutes of gameplay footage of Gran Turismo 7 ahead of its March 4 launch.
