Top Gun: Maverick is one of the biggest movies to hit theaters this year. The film is Cruise’s highest-grossing movie to date. The only movie that may be able to surpass it at the box office is Avatar: The Way of Water. “I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters,” the actor said in the video. “Thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick!” Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie then taps Cruise on the shoulder to remind him that they were on the clock to shoot a scene for the upcoming movie. “Oh yeah, we’re filming. We gotta get this shot!” the actor exclaims. Cruise asked if McQuarrie was joining him on the jump to which the director replied, “Not on your life, good luck!” He then steps out of the plane to start his free fall. While in the midst of his free fall, the actor continues his thank you message to fans, saying: “Where was I? Oh yeah, thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick,” Cruise adds while skydiving. “As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime.” Before ending the video, Cruise wished fans a “very safe and happy holiday.” He ends the video by saying, “We’ll see you at the movies!” Top Gun: Maverick is currently atop the list of highest-grossing films of the year. His return in Top Gun earned a staggering $1.48 billion in box office revenues. The only other film to break the $1 billion mark this year is Jurassic World Dominion. Avatar: The Way of Water will likely challenge the Top Gunn sequel at the top of the leaderboard. The film earned $434 million on its first weekend alone and is aiming to reach $2 billion in box office revenues just to break even. Tom Cruise will return as Ethan Hunt in the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. The actor is in the middle of filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Plot details for the movie have been kept under wraps but we do know that Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Ving Rhames are returning in the upcoming movie and that it’s been very expensive to film. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will be in theaters on July 14.
