According to Netflix Wednesday’s first season, which premiered on November 23, 2022, broke its record for the best opening week for an English-language TV show. The comedy-horror series garnered 341.2 million viewing hours worldwide in its opening week, dethroning Stranger Things season four, which racked up 335 million viewing hours. The series went on to break this record by racking up 411 million viewing hours the following week. It also crossed the one-billion-hours-viewed mark in just three weeks after its debut. Given its performance and Netflix’s precedence, many fans of the show expect the platform to have renewed it for a second season. However, the streaming giant is yet to do so. Due to the nature of the deals involved in renting IPs, movies rarely get pulled from Netflix due to acquisitions. The streaming platform owns the option for original content it hosts for a specific period, during which it has total control over the content’s future. Meanwhile, sources have suggested that the show’s producers, including Tim Burton, Alfred Gough, and Miles Millar, have begun looking for the perfect filming locations. They have also begun planning storylines for the new season. Gough himself revealed this during an interview with Empire in September, where he expressed his optimism for the show’s success. In his words, “Miles [Millar] and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There’s definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses.” Wednesday is a supernatural comedy horror show television series that is based on the titular character Wednesday Addams. It follows Addams as she attempts to navigate everyday life at Nevermore, a private school for outcasts. However, her cold and defiant personality makes it difficult for her to make friends and connect with others. Fortunately, these traits come in handy as she looks to solve a local murder mystery. Wednesday is currently streaming on Netflix.
