EA confirmed that the initial reveal trailer for the still-unnamed Need for Speed will make its debut tomorrow, October 6, at 11:00 AM EST. Although details of the next Need for Speed title remain unclear, a recent leak suggests that it will launch in December under the name of “Need for Speed: Unbound.” It’s believed that the new Need for Speed will feature anime elements, as per earlier leaks. If it’s true that Need for Speed Unbound will come out on December 2, Electronic Arts will be leaving less than two months between its initial reveal and release. This isn’t a deal-breaker, but you’d expect EA to dedicate more of its resources to getting the word out on the new racing sim. Keep in mind, Criterion and Codemasters are working together on this new installment. Having said that, we’re hoping EA has learned plenty from its mistakes. EA isn’t enjoying its best stretch when it comes to multiplayer games. Battlefield 2042 only just started recovering after a year of languishing. Meanwhile, FIFA 23 is getting review-bombed. Finally, most still haven’t forgotten the microtransaction-filled entries of the franchise like Need for Speed: Payback. Although Need for Speed: Heat, which was part of last month’s PS Plus Essential lineup, was seen as a return to form, Need for Speed: Unbound needs to do much more if wants to contend with Forza Horizon 5 and Gran Turismo 7. Ultimately, time will tell what kind of game the next Need for Speed will be. Speaking of EA, while its multiplayer ventures aren’t doing so great, its single-player titles are doing their fair share of heavy lifting. Fans are looking forward to playing Dead Space in January and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor early next year.
